Abstract
The study explores the structure of gender stereotypes on the female labor force participation among South Korea (family based gender regime), Sweden (women friendly and equality gender regime), and the USA (liberal market based gender regime). Based on the data derived by the 6th World Value Survey (2010–2014) there is an examination of gender stereotypes on dimensions, such as CEO in business, political leaders, opportunities for labor force participation and tertiary education. The Findings are as follows. First, regardless of the dimensions, gender stereotypes in South Korea are the most conservative and traditional of the three nations, whereas Sweden shows the least conservative nature. The USA stands between those two aforementioned countries. Second, a social consensus on gender equality in all the dimensions considered is observed in Sweden, in terms of the convergence of gender stereotypes in a liberal way by social groups. On the other hand, in the South Korean society complex and contradictory gender stereotypes by social groups coexist. Regarding the opportunities for tertiary education along gender lines are converging among the three gender regimes. The implications of the finings for gender equality are discussed in depth.
