60년대 한국사회에서 개인의 자유는 국가발전이라는 명목 하에 억압받기 일쑤였다. 자유를 추구하는 60년대의 여러 목소리들은 이런 맥락에서 나온 것으로 참여문학은 이 같은 지향의 전범이었다. 평단의정현종에 대한 평가는 참여문학과 상반된 곳에서 이루어져 왔다. 그의시의 개인주의적 자유주의적 지향은 비판적 리얼리즘보다는 모더니즘으로 풀이된다는 식이었다. 현실 속의 정현종은 참여문학과 같은 토양위에서 다른 방식으로 개인의 자유를 노래한 시인이었다. 정현종의 초기 시집인 『사물의 꿈』에는 이런 자유지향이 잘 나타나 있다. 그것은사물을 벗겨내어 그 본질을 확인하고, 이런 사물들의 만남을 시적 상상력으로 그려낸 결과물이다. 그는 사물과 사물의 만남을 통해 이면의무거움과 현상의 가벼움을 드러내고, 그 가벼움과 무거움을 교차시킴으로써 가벼움을 더 부각시켜간다. 이 가벼움은 무거움으로 유비되는시대상황을 순간적으로 벗어나게 하는 자유지향을 의미한다. 그에게가벼움과 무거움의 교차는 순간의 자유가 시적으로 형상화되는 방식인 것이다. 정현종의 『사물의 꿈』은 또한 사물과 사물의 일치가 아닌만남을 그려냄으로써 자신의 시를 사물과 사물이 만나고, 사물과 자신의 상상력이 결합하는 場으로 일구어 간다. 이런 시적 형상화를 통하여 그가 드러내고자 한 것 또한 개인이며 자유이다. 이런 의미에서 그의 시는 집단에 대항하는 개인의 추구이며 만남과 결합이 빚어내는자유에 대한 갈망이라 할 수 있다.
Abstract
Korean personal freedom in the 1960s was prone to receive oppression in the name of national development. The voices of the 1960s to pursue their freedom was shown in this context. For example, participating literature was typical embodiment of such orientation. However, the poet, Jeong Hyon-jong has been evaluated differently from participating literature. Individualistic and liberal orientation of his poems were described as modernism rather than critical realism. Jeong Hyon-jong tried to sing individual freedom in other ways, but has the same value orientation as the participating literature has. His early poetry work 『Dream of Things』 has shown this liberal intention. It is a work that the poet peels the ‘things’, confirms the essence of them, draws their meetings by poetic imagination. The poet reveals the lightness and heaviness behind the phenomena obtained by the encounter of things, cross the lightness and heaviness to highlight the lightness. The lightness is an analogy of liberal intention, the heaviness is an analogy of the 1960s’ oppressed situation in Korean society. Intersection of lightness and heaviness is the way of shaping a poetic moment aimat liberal intention. It is a personal freedom through which he reveals this poetic imagery. In this sense, We can say that his poetry is a kind of a pursuit of the individuality and freedom against the 1960s’ Korean group consciousness.
