본 연구에서는 소득불평등 지수인 지니계수를 이용하여 1980년대 이후 제조업부문에서 사업체간 생산성 불균등도의 추이를 분석하고, 생산함수를 이용하여 그 원인을 분석하였다. 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1980년 이후 2008년까지의 지니계수 추이의 전체적인 흐름은 U자형으로 나타났으며, 경제 불황기에 업체 간 불균등도가 더 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 생산함수 분해를 통하여, 업체 간 생산성 불균등도의 확대는 업체 간 총요소생산성의 불균등도 확대에 기인하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 총요소생산성 불균등도의 결정요인에 대한 분석결과 해외직접투자액비중과 연구개발비 집약도가 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper utilizes measures of income distribution to investigate the productivity dispersion of firms in Korea from 1980 to 2008. It estimates Gini coefficient by using the firm-level data taken from Korea Mining and Manufacturing Statistics. The main findings are as follows. First, the productivity dispersion of firms has been widened according to the estimated Gini coefficient since the late 1990s. Second, the productivity inequality of firms has been driven by TFP dispersion since the late 1990s. Third, the empirical results show that outward direct investment and R&D may have differentiated TFP dispersions across industries.
