Abstract
The study tries to examine how party label and ideological polarization of political elites influence affective polarization in mass public. Specifically, employing survey experiment, the study empirically analyzes whether and how party label of two fictitious candidates and ideological polarization of the candidates make a difference in the feeling of survey participants toward the candidates. Statistical results show that the party label heightens affective polarization of the participants, differently depending on the party identification of them, while the ideological polarization does not have a statistically significant effect on affective polarization of the participants. It implies that South Korean voters experience affective polarization based on the antagonistic confrontation between political parties rather than ideological polarization by itself of them.
