초록
As ideological conflict has become a significant issue in Korea, efforts to understand its causes are ongoing. However, previous studies in Korea have primarily focused on the ideological polarization of political elites, leaving the causes of ideological and political conflicts among voters less clear. Additionally, the specific ways in which these conflicts manifest at the voter level remain underexplored. The purpose of this study is to examine political conflicts using the concept of partisan-ideological sorting and to describe how this sorting relates to ideological conflict among voters. The analysis, based on surveys conducted by the Korea Social Science Data Center (KSDC) during the 18th and 19th National Assembly elections, suggests that partisan-ideological sorting is associated with an increase in affective polarization within the Korean electorate. Voters with stronger and more aligned political identities reported greater affinity for their own party and its political elites, while exhibiting more negative feelings toward the opposing party and its elites.
