Abstract
Li Da-zhao played a pivotal role in promoting the First United Front between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Kuomintang (KMT). He worked closely with the Comintern to facilitate the organization of the CCP and later sought to expand the revolutionary base through cooperation with the KMT. In 1921, the Comintern sent its second representative, Maring, to explore connections between the CCP and the KMT. During this process, Li Da-zhao strongly supported collaboration with the KMT. At the West Lake Conference in 1922, an official decision was made to adopt the policy of cooperation between the two parties. Following this, Li played a crucial role in persuading the CCP leadership to push forward with the alliance. In 1923, he met directly with Sun Yat-sen to discuss KMT reforms and the issue of the United Front and actively participated in the reorganization of the KMT. In January 1924, at the First National Congress of the KMT, the United Front was officially established, adopting a policy that allowed CCP members to join the KMT as individuals. Li Da-zhao played a key role in this process, focusing on strengthening the revolutionary direction within the KMT. Additionally, he served as the head of the Organization Department at the KMT Beijing Executive Bureau, promoting the national expansion of the KMT while also recommending revolutionary youth for enrollment at the Hwang-pu Military Academy, contributing to the training of revolutionary forces. Although both Li Dazhao and Sun Yat-sen agreed on the necessity of the United Front, they held differing views on revolutionary leadership and ultimate goals. Li Dazhao believed that the CCP should take the leadership of the revolution and ultimately build a communist society.
