Abstract
This article reinterprets the relationship between humans and tools (AI) in the AI era based on Confucian philosophy's Doctrine of Dao and Qi (道器論) and explores the possibility of reconstructing human identity. In the modern era, AI has moved beyond a mere instrumental role and has become deeply involved in human life, posing new ethical challenges. Therefore, this article examines the possibility of AI developing into a moral agent, focusing on whether AI can embody human moral values through the principle of the unity of Dao and Qi The article explores the possibility of a harmonious coexistence between humans and AI through the concept of Confucian ideal society, the “Great Harmony Society” (大同社會). When AI is designed and utilized in accordance with human moral standards, it can have a positive impact on human society, suggesting the potential for a mutually beneficial development between AI and humans. This discussion provides insights into redefining the relationship between humans and tools in the AI era and enriching human identity.
