초록

This study aims at exploring aspects of gender portrayed in audiovisual translation, transcending the linguistic dimension that includes text condensation attributed by temporal and spatial constraints. The data selected were the three Disney movies which included Mulan(1998), The Princess and the Frog(2009), and Brave(2012). From the perspective of the Descriptive Translation Studies, by comparing the Korean subtitling and dubbing to the original, the study analyzed the major translational shifts related to gender. The identified underlying concepts of translational shifts were sexism, gender stereotype, and patriarchal thinking. In regard to these three concepts, the study formulated a provisional hypotheses through the case analyses and an exploration of causes. The significance of the study lies in endeavoring empirical research on gender in audiovisual translation.
