Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study Frank Baum's fantasy works and to investigate how the fantastic space is constructed in his works. Though The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the most famous work of his, there are also a number of works which can be categorized into the genre as Fantasy. Therefore, this paper intends to divide his fantasy works into three types and tries to look into how the fantastic space of his works is formed, which is the relationship between the real world and the fantastic world. I think that the structure of fantastic space can produce specific narrative techniques and reflect the ideological aspects. In addition, when it comes to children's literature, his works can also reveal the concept of children. Therefore, this paper is to focus on those topics, dealing with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Master Key: An Electrical Fairy Tale, The Magical Monarch of Mo and Dot and Tot of Merryland.
