「나무꾼과 선녀」그림책에 나타난 ‘혼인’의 의미 고찰

본 연구는 「나무꾼과 선녀」 그림책에 나타난 ‘혼인’의 의미를 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 2009년부터 2016년까지 최근 10여 년 동안 발행된 16편의 그림책을 대상으로 ‘인물’, ‘혼인의 방법과 과정’, ‘혼인의 의미’를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 나무꾼의 부당한 혼인 방법에도 불구하고 모든 텍스트가 나무꾼 중심으로 서술되어 많은 텍스트에서 주변 인물의 성격이 왜곡되고, 나무꾼에게 불리한 장면이 생략되고, 선녀가 지나치게 순종적인 캐릭터로 변형된 것을 확인하였다. 무엇보다 중심인물인 선녀의 성격이 일관성을 잃어, 선녀 승천의 의미가 무색하게 나무꾼의 그릇된 행동이 선녀에 의해 수용되고 묵인된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 선녀의 행복한 혼인생활과, 대가없이 나무꾼을 인정하는 옥황상제의 태도, 혼인 파탄의 이유를 나무꾼이 옷을 내준 것에 한정한 학습활동 등이 결과적으로 나무꾼의 땅에서의 잘못을 정당화하는 것으로 파악하였다. 이 때문에 상대방과 합의되지 않은 나무꾼의 일방적인 혼인이 용인되고, 나무꾼의 행위가 이후의 시련과 징벌로 연결되지 못하여 결말의 의미를 반감시킨 것으로 파악하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study the meanings of ‘marriage’ on The Woodcutter and The Fair picture books. This grasped ‘characters’, ‘the method and process of marriage’ and ‘the meanings of marriage’, focused on 16 picture books published during the recent decade. As a result, this paper showed that all texts were described as the Woodcutter-centered and the personality of the surrounding characters in many texts was distorted, in spite of the unjust marriage method of the Woodcutter. Also, this verified the facts that the unfavorable scenes for the Woodcutter were omitted and the Fairy was deformed into the excessively obedient character. It was ascertained that the personality of the main character, 'the Fairy' was inconsistent so that the unjust behavior of the Woodcutter was accepted and tolerated by the Fairy, which overshadowed the meaning of the Fairy ascension. In addition, this paper confirmed that the happy marriage of the Fairy, the unnecessary appearance and behavior of the Great Jade Emperor, and the reasons of the marriage breakup restricted only to giving clothes by the Woodcutter justified, as a result, the fault of the Woodcutter on the ground. This grasped, on this account, that one-sided marriage of the Woodcutter without consent was allowed and the behavior of the Woodcutter without connecting to the subsequent hardship and punishment halved the meaning of the ending.
