본 논문은 절멸 위기에 처한 두 시베리아 소수민족 언어에 대한 문어화(文語化)의 진화에 대해 설명하고 있다. 구소련과 러시아연방 소수 민족의 언어 표준화와 활성화에 대한 다른 경로가 돌간어(Dolgan, 튀르크어족)와 산림 에네츠어(Forest Enets, 우랄어족)의 연구에서 설명되고 있다. 이 연구는 러시아 연방에서 소규모 원주민 언어에 대한 문맹 퇴치 작업의 시발과 진전에 대한 비교 견해를 제공하고 있다. 두 개 언어에 대한 문자화 작업은 지리적 및 정치적 배경이 서로 다르기 때문에 시간적으로나 실질적으로 다른 개발 결과를 낳았다. 돌간어와 산림 에네츠어의 경우, 문자화를 통한 언어 표준화가 언어 생존에 미치는 영향은 매우 유사했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 언어들에서 표준화나 진화한 문자 문화가 러시아어로의 전환을 억제하지 못하는 것 같다. 본 논문의 목적은 시베리아 북부의 원주민 소수 민족 집단이 사용하는 돌간어와 산림 에네츠어의 공시적, 통시적 발달과정과 문자표기의 변화 과정을 비교설명하고 문어화가 그 사회의 교육언어학적 환경에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 돌간어와 산림 에네츠어의 사례를 바탕으로 언어 보존의 중요성과 소중함을 일깨우고자한다. 이를 위하여, II장에서는 돌간어와 산림 에네츠어의 언어 상황에 대해서 조명하고 있고, 돌간어와 산림 에네츠어의 문어화 과정을 III장에서 역사언어학적으로 다루고 있다. 그리고 IV장에서는 두 언어의 문어화로 인한 영향력에 대하여 논하고 있다. 마지막으로 V장의 결론에서는 문어화와 문서 보관을 통한 언어 보존의 중요성과 그와 반대로, 언어 소멸로 인한 인류의 손실과 위기를 강조하고 있다.
Abstract
The article describes the evolution of literary languages for endangered indigenous languages in Siberia. Different paths of language standardization and revitalization in the Soviet Union and Russian minority context are illustrated with studies from Dolgan (Turkic) and Forest Enets (Uralic). The study offers a comparative view of the origin and progress of literacy creation for small indigenous languages in the Russian Federation. The different geographical and political settings of literary planning attempts for the languages have resulted in chronologically and substantially different developments. For Dolgan and Forest Enets, the effects of language standardization through literary process on language survival have been very similar. In these languages, neither the standardization nor the evolving written culture seems to restrain language shift to Russian in any considerable degree. The purpose of the article is to remind us of the importance and value of language preservation based on the cases of Dolgan and Forest Enets, by comparing the synchronic and diachronic development processes and change of the literacy creation, and by looking into the effects of literacy creation on the educational and linguistic environments of the society. To this end, Chapter II sheds light on the language situation of Dolgan and Forest Enets, and deals with the history and linguistic background of how Dolgan and Forest Enets became literary languages in Chapter III. Chapter IV discusses the influence of literacy creation in both languages. Finally, the conclusion of Chapter V highlights the importance of preserving the language through literation and documentation, and, contrary to that, the loss and crisis of mankind due to language extinction.
