우리는 「역사의 개념에 대하여」(1940)에서 벤야민의 역사철학을 집약하고 있는 성좌구조 하나를 발견할 수 있다. 역사주의와 역사 유물론 그리고 메시아주의가 만들어내는 형상이 바로 그것이다. 벤야민은 역사주의에 대해 ‘유곽에서 몸을 파는 창녀’에 비유할 정도로 격한 적대감을 드러내고 있으며, 역사주의에 맞선 대항마로 자신의 입장을 포함한 역사 유물론을 내세우고 있다. 한편 그는 마르크스후예들이 전유한 역사유물론이 그 고유한 비판적 잠재력을 상실했다는 점에서 당대 마르크스주의에 이의를 제기하고 있으며, 그러한 맥락 속에서 유대전통의 메시아주의를 주장하고 있다. 각 요소의 위상은 그 세 가지가 만들어내는 성좌구조 전체에 의해 규정되는데, 그것을 들여다볼 수 있는 열쇠 하나로 ‘신학적’이라 특징지을 수 있는 독특한 사유차원이 표면에 떠오른다. 만약 이 열쇠를 손에 넣을 수 있다면, 벤야민의 역사철학 반 이상은 파악하는 셈이 된다. 그러한 전망 속에서 이 성좌구조에 대해 살펴보기로 한다.
Abstract
We can find a constellation which Benjamin's historical philosophy focused on in 「On the Concept of History」(1940). This constellation is made by the historicism, historical materialism and messianism. Benjamin revealed his deep hostility to the historicism as using an analogy 'a whole in bordello', and stood against it with historical materialism which involved his own opinion. On the other hand, he criticised the marxism of his days in that historical materialism appropriated by the descendant of marxism lost it's proper critical possibility. And he proposed messianism of jewish tradition in that context. The status of each elements are defined by the whole constellation which above three elements parted in, and in there his unique thought which characterized as 'theological' come up on the surface as a key we can understand his concept. If we can get this key, we can figure out benjamin's historical philosophy. This study is for the examination on that constellation in this view.
