벤야민의 역사철학테제에서 나타나는 역사주의 비판은 분과학문체계를 둘러싼 사상사적 담론으로 한정하기 어렵다. 벤야민은 역사주의를 ‘19세기의 근원사’(『파사주』프로젝트)라는 자신의 독자적인 연구기획 속에서 바라보았으며, 이러한 시각 속에서 포착된 역사주의의 현상은 예술과 문화 그리고 의식의 영역으로 매우 폭넓게 확장되어 있다. 19세기의 예술과 문화에서 나타나는 역사주의는 한마디로 역사적인 것의 과잉으로 특징지을 수 있다. 그것은 역사적 지식의 포화로, 또 박물의 범람으로 현재의 실존을 짓누른다. 과거에 대한 과도한 집착이 불러일으킨 세계의 박물화 현상은 사실상 일상영역 전반에 걸쳐 관철된 역사주의의 세속화를 의미한다. 역사주의의 세속화라는 국면을 맞아 벤야민은 과거를 어떻게 전유할 것인가라는 진지한 물음을 제기하고 있다. 역사의 전유는 새로운 역사와 가치의 창출이 아니라, 역사를 이전하고 전승하는 역할에 주목한다. 이러한 역할에 비판적 성격을 확보하기 위해 벤야민은 유물론적 역사인식론을 타진하고 있으며, 그것은 역사적 무대의 영웅과 명성에 가려진 무명인의 기념비 구축이라는 과제로 이어진다. 이 기념비는 억압으로 점철된 피지배 경험의 장소이다.
Abstract
Benjamin’s Historismus criticism that appears in the Theses on the Philosophy of Historyis difficult to limit as the discourse on the history of thought surrounding academic science system. Benjamin perceivedHistorismus from his proprietary research plan, which is the ‘history of the origin during the 19th Century’(『The passage』project). Historismus phenomenon captured amidst this perception is expanded very broadly to the domains of art, culture and consciousness. Historismus that appears in the art and culture of the 19thCentury can be characterized as the excess of what is historical, to put it simply. This is the saturation of the historical knowledge and the existence of the present is pressed down due to the overflow of the wide knowledge. Musealization phenomenon of the world, caused by the excessive fixation on the past signifies secularization of Historismus, foreseen in all aspects of the everyday domain in actuality. In the face of the secularization of Historismus, Benjamin is posing serious question on how to appropriate the past. The appropriation ofthe history does not entail creating new history and value: Instead, focus is on the role of transferring and passing down the history. To secure criticism like characteristic to this type of role, Benjamin taps the opinion, materialistic epistemology of history is being tapped, which in turn leads to the assignment of developing commemorative monumental for the obscure individuals who were hidden behind the heroes and reputations of the historical stage. This commemorative monument is the place concerning the experience of the governed, interspersed with repression.
