본 논문은 프리드리히 니체와 발터 벤야민의 역사관을 비교하고 두 사상 사이의 공통점을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문의 중심 주장은 다음과 같다. 벤야민과 니체의 역사에 대한 논의는 근대의 역사학을 역사주의(Historicism, Historismus)라는 이름 아래에 포괄하고 비판한다는 점에서, 그리고 역사주의에서 벗어나 인간의 삶을 위한 대안적인 역사 이론을 개진하려고 했다는 점에서 유사하다는 것이다. 이러한 주장과 더불어 나는 벤야민과 니체의 역사철학 사이에 존재하는 화해할 수 없는 지점에 대한 나름의 반론을 제시할 것이다. 본 논문에서 수행되는 두 철학자의 역사관 사이에 존재하는 공통점에 대한 분석을 기반으로 추후 벤야민과 니체의 ‘주체’ 개념에 있어서의 유사성을 다루는 연구를 진행할 것이다. 그렇기에 본 논문에는 일종의 선행 연구로서의 학술적 가치가 있을 것이라고 기대된다. 그리고 본 논문이 역사가 단순한 객관적 기록 이상이 되어야 한다는 니체와 벤야민의 역사철학을 다루고 있다는 점에서, 본 논문이 먼 과거에 발생했음에도 불구하고 오늘날에도 여전히 문제가 되는 역사적 갈등을 해결하는데도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
The goal of this paper is to compare Friedrich Nietzsche‘s and Walter Benjamin’s philosophy of history and to figure out the common feature between them. The main argument of this paper is as follows. Firstly, both Nietzsche and Benjamin criticized Historicism(Historismus) and tried to suggest an alternative view of history for human life. Secondly, I will suggest some refutations to the incompatible point that exists between Nietzsche’s and Benjamin’s philosophy of history. Based on the study of the similarities between Nietzsche's and Benjamin’s views of history in this paper, I will point out that both philosophers’ conception of ‘Subject’ has similarities as well. Therefore, it is expected that this paper will have academic value as the precedent research. Further, since this paper focused on the views of Nietzsche and Benjamin that history should not be regarded as just something objective, it is also expected to provide a possible resolution to historical conflicts.
