Abstract
The purpose of the current study is to investigate the value structure of college students on using Facebook. Based on Self-regulatory theory(Higgins, 1997) and Means-End Chain theory(Gutman, 1982), this study divided two groups as ‘promotion focus’ and ‘prevention focus’. then measured the value structure on using facebook by laddering technique. Notable findings are follow: college students who have a disposition of promotion focus showed <supplying something interesting> (attribute) - <fun and interesting> (functional consequence) - <feeling of satisfaction> (psychological consequence) - <positive and exciting life> (value). Whereas a group who have a disposition of prevention focus showed <chat and communication> (attribute) - <human relations> (functional) - <sense of friendliness and kindness> (psychological) - <sense of belonging> (value). Theoretical and practical implications were discussed.
