본 연구의 목적은 Festinger(1954)의 사회비교 이론과 Smith(2000)의 사회비교정서 이론을 학업상황에 적용하여 학업사회비교 정서 척도를 개발하고 초기 타당도 자료를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해 B 광역시에 소재한 고등학교에 재학 중인 396명이 일차 설문조사에 291명의 학생이 이차 설문조사에 참여하였다. 척도의 요인구조를 확인하기 위해 탐색적 요인분석과 확인적 요인분석이 수행되었다. 공인타당도를 알아보기 위해 관련 변인인 능력기반 사회비교 경향성, 주관적 안녕감, 친구관계와 학업사회비교 정서 간의 상관관계를 조사하였다. 또한 학업사회비교 정서 척도의 신뢰도를 조사하기 위해 문항 내적일치도를 알아보았다. 연구 결과를 살펴보면, 요인분석을 통해 도출된 네 요인 모델은 사회비교정서 이론이 제시하는 네 가지 범주의 사회비교 정서- 상향동화, 상향대조, 하향동화, 하향대조-를 반영하는 것으로 나타났다. 관련 변인과의 관계를 살펴보면, 우울, 분노, 질투의 정서를 포함하는 상향대조와 자부심, 경멸, 타인의 불행에 기뻐하는 정서를 포함하는 하향대조 정서는 능력기반 사회비교 경향성과 중간 크기의 정적 상관을 보였다. 희망, 고무, 감탄의 상향동화 정서는 주관적 안녕감과 친구관계와 정적인 상관관계를 보였으며, 걱정, 동정, 공감의 하향동화 정서는 친구관계와 정적인 상관관계를 보였다. 각 하위요인과 전체 문항은 비교적 양호한 문항 내적일치도를 보여 척도의 신뢰도를 지지하는 자료를 제공하였다. 본 연구는 일상생활에서 학업과 관련해서 고등학생들이 빈번하게 경험하는 정서를 사회비교정서 이론에 근거하여 이해하고 측정할 수 있는 학업사회비교 정서 척도를 개발하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 연구 결과에 관한 논의와 연구의 제한점 및 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Adopting, Festinger’s social comparison theory(1954) and Smith’s social comparison- based emotion theory(2000), the current study sought to develop the learning social comparison-based emotion (LSCE) scale and provide initial validity of the LSCE scale. Two surveys were conducted in high schools located in the B metropolitan city in which 396 and 291 students participated. Using the independent samples, the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted, concurrent validity was examined in the relationships with ability-based social comparison, subjective well-being, and friendship, and internal consistency was examined. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis resulted in the four-factor model, which consisted of upward assimilative, upward contrastive, downward assimilative, and downward contrastive emotions. The upward contrastive factor including depression, resentment, and jealousy and the downward contrastive factor including pride, contempt, and schadenfreude had positive medium-size correlations with ability-based social comparison. The upward assimilative factor including hope, admiration and inspiration had positive correlations with subjective well-being and friendship. The downward assimilative factor including worry, pity, and sympathy had a positive correlation with friendship. The internal consistencies of the four factors and the total items were adequate, which supported for the reliability of the scale. The current study developed a scale that measures social-comparison-based emotions in the context of learning, which was based on the social comparison theory. The current study provided implications and limitations of the study.
