Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate influence of visual and auditory interference on brain activity and perforamcne during visuo-motor task. Participants were twenty male undergraduate students whose mean age was 24 years. Sixty trials of golf putting consisted of 20 non-interference, 20 visual interference and 20 auditory interference. The order of these were counter-balanced. Performance of golf putting was evaluated by absolute error, variable error and radial error. The analysis of brain waves was conducted by calculated alpha and beta power of 1 second EEG prior and subsequent to stimuli presentation at C3, C4, T3, and T4. The analysis of alpha power at central regions revealed that alpha power after interference was higher than one before interference in both visual and auditory interference conditions. The difference was not observed in non-interference condition. Taken together, visual and auditory interference did not induce decline of performance. This result seems to be due to minimizing the effect of interference by increasing internal elaborations while rejecting environmental input.
