관광․레저 공간이 해양으로 확대됨과 동시에 연안지역 접근성 개선으로 인한 섬 관광 활성화 정책이 활발히 추진되고 있다. 하지만, 일부 성과에도 불구하고 시설 설치 위주로 인한 환경 훼손, 관광객 수 양적 증가에 지나친 관심 등으로 지속가능성을 위한 섬 생태관광 육성 필요성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 생태관광과 관광시스템 이론에 대한 통합적 논의를 토대로 생태관광시스템의 개념 및 구성요소에 대한 조작적 정의를 시도하고 이를 논의구조로 섬 해양자원을 활용한 생태관광시스템 구축방안 도출을 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구결과로 제시한 생태관광시스템은 관광대상으로 기능하는 대표적인 해양생태자원이나 보호구역 등이 지정되어 있는 섬의 자원 보전 및 관광경험 관리 차원에서 적용될 수 있으며, 섬 지역 생태관광정책 기본방향 수립에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest a development plan for an ecotourism system by making use of marine resources. For this purpose, this study will deal, in particular, with an integrated discussion on the theory of ecotourism and its system in order to come up with a concept of ecotourism and an operational definition of its components. This research defines ecotourism as a form of tourism for which the primary concern is a sustainability of natural or cultural charms that promotes environmentally-friendly tourism through education and provides economic benefits to the region. In addition, it defines an ecotourism system as a combination of supply and demand factors of tourism that are correlated with or dependent on one another in relation to ecotourism. The ecotourism system presented as a result of the research can be applied to the conservation of resources and tourism experience management of the island where the representative marine ecological resources and protected areas are designated as tourism destinations, and used for establishing the basic direction of the island’s ecotourism policy.
