The blue economy has gained attention in the past decade as a framework for the sustainable use of ocean resources through innovative technology. This study examines how to integrate principles of the blue economy into policies for sustainable marine tourism, using Jeonnam Province, South Korea as a case study. Introducing this concept into marine tourism policy is critical for Korea to develop tourism sustainably while protecting ecosystems and community livelihoods. Recommendations include: 1) Enhancing governance between stakeholders to utilize marine resources sustainably; 2) Establishing policies for sustainable resource management and marine conservation; 3) Improving accessibility to rural and remote islands to spur economic growth; 4) Implementing measures to minimize marine pollution impacts on residents; and 5) Conserving cultural heritage by emphasizing sustainable use of marine resources. The blue economy provides an essential framework in Jeonnam Province for developing marine tourism in a way that is ecologically sustainable and beneficial for local communities. Jeonnam has developed plans related to the blue economy, but these have not been actively employed or integrated seamlessly into marine tourism policy. A more holistic approach is needed to carry out the concept align closely with sustainable tourism.
