Abstract

In this study, we examine if the crash risk affects on the value relevance of the accounting information. The crash risk means the phenomenon that the bubble of company collapse suddenly and the stock price drop very steeply. So if investors expect the company has a crash risk or a higher crash risk rather than other companies, the credibility of the financial information of that company will be decreased. And also, following prior research, the credibility of the financial information is positively related with the value relevance of the accounting information. So this study examine the relationship between the crash risk and the value relevance of the accounting information. The results are as follows. First, the companies that have a crash risk or a higher crash risk than other companies show the high level of the value relevance of the accounting information. Second, the relationship between the value relevance of the accounting information and the crash risk are influenced by whether the CEO owns the stock or not.
