Abstract

This study aims to investigate the differences in mothers’ happiness and family interaction, children’s overall development, and anxiety according to the children’s gender, and to analyze the influence of mothers’ happiness and family interaction, and children’s overall development on children’s anxiety. To examine these influences more closely, we examined the influences of each gender separately. To examine these influences more closely, we examined the influences of each gender separately. The data of 1,212 mothers and child were extracted from the 7th Panel Study on Korean Children. To verify the reliability of the instrument, we examined Cronbach’s coefficient. Stepwise regression analysis was used to examine the influence of mothers’ happiness, family interaction, and children’s overall development on children’s anxiety. The study results revealed differences only in the children’s overall development according to the children’s gender. No significant differences were found in mothers’ happiness, family interaction, or children’s anxiety based on children’s gender. Mothers’ happiness, children’s overall development, and family interaction had a -7.3% negative impact on children’s anxiety. To examine this more specifically, we analyzed the variables influencing boys’ anxiety. The results showed that mothers’ happiness and boys’ overall development had a -5.1% negative impact. Mothers’ happiness, girls’ overall development, and family interaction each had a -10.0% negative impact on girls’ anxiety. This suggests that support for mothers’ happiness, family interaction, and children’s overall development is necessary to reduce children’s anxiety.
