Abstract

The observation and experimentation in laboratory are main methods to teach the science subject. Therefore the science is an effective subject to teach for hearing impaired students who are depended on visual information. Two hearing impaired students who are the fifth grade in inclusive education environment were participated for this study. The hearing impaired students can use sign language. The 20 target vocabularies from science subject of the fifth grade were s tected from five teachers. The mind map vocabularies were collected after studying with science subject. Also the mind map vocabularies were gathered after coined sigh language on the same target vocabulary of science subject. The activities with coined sign language were performed by special class teacher who can use sign language. The es ulte samthis study were that:era) the coined sign language was effective to intectit with two hearing impaired students;erb) the coined sign language was effective to increase the mind map vocabularies on most science subject target vocabularies; (c) the coined sign language was not effective to some target vocabularies; and (d) the coined sign language was generated by similarity effects which is changed to similar meanings from target vocabularies. Therefore this study concluded that the coined sign language was effective to increase the mind map vocabularies for hearing impaired students.
