Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of parent-implemented SCERTS Model-based intervention for toddlers their parents, ensuring the procedure used to support and engage the parents in home settings. An experimental group involving 9 toddlers and their parents received two parent education sessions, participated in SCERTS assessment procedure. Joint attention, play, parenting efficacy were completed at baseline and 12 weeks later with Early Social Communication Scales, Structured Play Assessment, and Toddler Care Questionnaire. Results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the degree of change in toddlers’ joint attention skills, functional play skills, and parenting efficacy between the two groups. The results suggest that a parent-implemented SCERTS model-based intervention can improve joint attention skills, functional play skills, and parents’ parenting efficacy.
