Abstract

It is the ability to develop unit for the gifted learners that G/T education teachers feel urgent necessity in their practical educational situations. The basic principle of G/T education is to develop curriculum and teach in response to the traits of the gifted learners. Noting that one of the traits is the ability to connect ideas and appreciate their interrelatedness and its beauty, the researcher explored the process of developing the integrated curriculum unit for the gifted learners. The process holds three characteristics. First, the process focuses on understanding knowledge not as a separate subject matter but as a system. Second, curriculum development is inseparable from instruction so that the former becomes part of the latter, which is different from the case of traditional subject curriculum development. Third, the process differentiates the two approaches of integrated curriculum development: Transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. And it was suggested that the two approaches differ in the way of being concretized in curriculum unit development and be adopted according to the level of intellectual development of gifted learners.
