킬패트릭의 The Project Method 관점에서 본 초등학교 프로젝트 수업에 대한 몇 가지 쟁점

본 연구는 초등학교에서 교사들이 다양한 의미로 사용하고 있는 '프로젝트 OO'을 킬패트릭의 ‘The project method’ 개념으로 되짚어보았다. 이에 본 연구는 ‘프로젝트 OO'이라는 같은 용어지만, 조금씩 다른 의미를 부여하고 있는 초등학교 프로젝트 수업 현상에서 드러나고 있는 몇 가지 쟁점들을 찾았다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 킬패트릭은 ‘The Project Method’를 제안하면서 학교 수업이 학생의 유목적적 활동이 되어야 한다고 생각했다. 둘째, 학교 수업은 내용의 논리적 측면 못지 않게 심리적 측면에 집중해야 한다는 주장을 피력하고 있다. 셋째, 학교 수업은 학생이 계속 이어지는 활동을 하게 하는 ‘mind-set’을 가질 수 있는 경험을 제공해야 함을 주장했다. 이런 킬패트릭의 제안에 기반해서 우리나라 초등학교의 ‘프로젝트 수업’ 현상에서 드러나고 있는 쟁점을 다음 네 가지로 밝혔다. 첫째, 가르칠 것이 정해진 우리나라에서는 프로젝트 수업을 할 수 없다. 둘째, 유목적적 활동은 학생들만이 정한다. 셋째, 프로젝트 수업은 개인이 수행하는 과제 및 문제해결 학습이다. 넷째, ‘심리’는 내용의 한 측면으로 간주하기보다는 방법으로 오해하고 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study looked revisit the 'project OO' from Kilpatrick’s ‘The project method’ concept point of view that teachers use a variety of means in elementary school. In this study, we found that some of the issues revealed in the elementary school classroom projects and give the term phenomenon, but slightly different meaning: that "project OO '. The results first, Kilpatrick thought the school should be the purposeful activities of the students and propose 'The Project Method'. Second, the school has expressed the claim that we should focus on the psychological aspects equally logical aspects of curriculum. Third, the school must provide an experience that can have a 'mind-set' that the student continues to lead activities(learning). This proposal, based on Kilpatrick said that four issues revealed in the "project teaching" phenomenon of Elementary school. First, we can not use to teach Kilpatrick’s ‘The Project Method’ in Korea. Second, purposeful activities shall be determined only students. Third, project teaching is a personal task and the problem based learning. Fourth, the "Psychological" had been misunderstood as a method, rather than considered to be an aspect of curriculum.
