창덕궁 도배에 사용된 문양지의 지질 및 안료 연구

본 연구에서는 창덕궁의 현재 도배지와 1920년대에 부착되었던 도배지를 대상으로 과학적 분석을 수행하여 근대에서 현재에 이르기까지 궁궐에서 도배지로 사용한 종이와 안료의 종류 및 특징을 파악하고자 하였다. 첫 번째로, 현재 창덕궁 희정당·대조전 영역의 도배지를 대상으로 색도와 디지털 현미경을 활용한 현장분석을 수행하여 궁궐 전각의 도배지 현황을 기록하였다. 두 번째로, 창덕궁 석복헌의 해체 보수 과정에서 수습된 도배지를 대상으로 과학적 분석을 수행하여 근대 궁궐 도배에 사용된 벽지의 지질과 안료의 종류를 파악하고자 하였다. 희정당·대조전 영역의 공간별 도배지의 분포현황과 섬유구조 및 색도분석을 수행함으로써 전각 내에서 확인되는 모든 도배지의 종류를 파악하고 궁궐도배지 관련 기록 자료를 구축하였다. 더불어 근대 창덕궁 석복헌 도배에 사용된 문양지를 대상으로 종이와 안료 분석을 수행함으로써 황실에서 도배지를 제작하는데 사용된 원재료를 파악하였다. 근대기 도배지의 섬유 분석 결과 초배지에서는 닥나무 인피섬유만이 확인되다가 점차 닥나무와 초본류를 함께 사용하는 양상을 보였으며 마지막으로 침엽수 화학펄프가 사용된 것이 관찰되었다. 또한 안료의 현미경 분석 결과 문양지에서는 흑, 백, 청, 적, 황을 기본으로 녹, 보라, 금, 은 등의 색상이 활용된 것을 알 수 있었다. 각 색상에 활용된 안료를 주사전자현미경-에너지분산형 X선형광분석기(SEM-EDS)를 사용하여 분석한 결과 청색에는 프러시안블루, 울트라마린블루 등, 녹색에는 프탈로시아닌그린, 버디그리스 등, 적색은 황산바륨 등, 보라색은 퍼머넌트바이올렛 등 대부분 유기금속계 안료가 사용된 것으로 추정되며 금과 은의 색상을 나타내기 위해 구리와 알루미늄 등을 활용하여 금속광택을 표현한 것이 확인되었다.
Abstract
In this study, we planned to figure out the types and characteristics of the paper and pigment used in wallpaper in Changdeokgung Palace by scientific analysis conducted on the wallpaper that was attached to the palace from the 1920s to now. First, we analyzed the current state of the wallpaper in Huijeongdang Hall and Daejojeon Hall by using a colorimeter and digital microscope. Second, we conducted a scientific analysis of the wallpaper obtained during the dismantling and repair of Seokbokheon Hall and identified the types of paper and pigment used in the wallpaper in the palace during the modern period. By analyzing the spatial distribution of the wallpaper and its fiber structure and color, we were able to determine all the types of the paper attached to the walls in the whole area of the halls and establish records related to the wallpaper in the royal palace. In addition, by conducting fiber and pigment analysis of the wallpaper glued to Seokbokheon Hall in the 1920s, we identified the raw materials used to produce the wallpaper in the royal palace. Fiber analysis of the wallpaper used in the modern period showed that only mulberry fibers were found in the first layer of paper, then gradually mulberry and herbaceous plants were used in combination, and lastly chemical pulp made of softwood fiber was used in the last layer of paper. Analysis of the pigment under a microscope revealed that the color patterns were based on black, white, blue, red and yellow, with other colors such as green, purple, gold and silver also being used. Analysis of the pigment used for each color using a scanning electron microscope(SEM)-energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (EDS) estimated that most of the pigments were organic, such as Prussian blue and ultramarine blue for the blue color, phthalocyanine green and verdigris for the green color, barium sulfide for the red color and permanent violet for the purple color. Also, it was confirmed that copper and aluminum were used to express the metallic luster of the gold and silver colors.
