원불교 신앙⋅수행 병진의 의미

이 연구는 원불교의 신앙(信仰)과 수행(修行)이 ‘병진(竝進)’으로써 실행되는 것임에도 불구하고 분리된 개념으로 인식 및 해석될 수 있다는 문제의식 위에서 원불교 초기교서들, 그리고 현재 사용하는 교서를 탐색함으로써 신앙⋅수행 병진의 의미를 모색하고자 한다. 나아가 원불교 신앙과 수행에 관한 바람직한 연구 방향을 제언하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 일원상의 진리는 우주의 궁극적 진리다. 원불교는 이러한진리를 신앙하는 동시에 수행의 표본을 삼아야 한다고 본다. 그럼에도 현재 신앙과수행 문화에는 ‘병진’의 참된 의미를 충분히 기반 하지 못하는 부분이 있다. 신앙과수행의 연관성을 다룬 연구가 드문 데다, 신앙론 또는 수행론을 집중적으로 연구하는 과정에서 두 가지에 관한 통합적 연구가 상대적으로 활발히 진행되지 않은 것은아쉬운 점이다. 따라서 본 연구는 원불교의 주요 초기교서들을 검토하여 신앙⋅수행병진의 참 의미를 탐구하고, ‘일원상(一圓相)’ 중심의 통합성에 기반 한 연구 방향을제언하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study seeks to explore the meaning of faith and practice by exploring Won Buddhism textbooks and Initial Canons currently used on the basis of the problem that Won Buddhism’s faith and practice can be recognized and interpreted as separate concepts. Furthermore, the purpose is to suggest a desirable research direction on the translation of Won Buddhism faith and practice. The Truth of Il-Won-Sang is the ultimate truth of the universe. Won Buddhism believes that these truths should be believed and at the same time used as a model of practice. Nevertheless, there are parts of the current faith and practice culture that are not based on the true meaning of “mutual progress”. In particular, it is regrettable that there are few studies dealing with the relationship between faith and practice, and that the tendency to study the two integrally in the process of intensively studying faith or practice theory has not developed together. Therefore, this study aims to explore the true meaning of faith and practice by reviewing major Initial Canons used in Won Buddhism. Based on the contents reviewed in this way, I would like to suggest the meaning and research direction of the translation of faith and practice.
