이 글의 목표는 아리스토텔레스 수사학 II 9장의 의분 규정을 주해하는 것으로서, 그의 규정을 그의 감정 일반론에 비추어 검토하는 한편, 의분의 감정을 수사 맥락에서 어떻게 부릴 수 있는지 그 방안을 살핀다. 일련의 작업을 통해 의분이 도대체 어떤 감정인지와, 그것의 수사적 활용법이 명료하게 드러난다. 요컨대 의분은 좋은 성정의 소유자임을 드러내 보여주는 징표요, 자유민에게 어울리는 감정이다.
Abstract
This essay is a commentary on the definition of indignation in Aristotle's Rhetoric II 9: an explanation of the concept in the light of his general theory of emotions. In addition, I will look for the way through which one uses indignation in rhetorical situations. A series of works reveal what indignation is and how it is used rhetorically. In short, indignation is sign of good character, and an emotion for free man.
