The purpose of the present study is to examine the effectiveness of an online TOEIC course, as a case study of incorporating multimedia technology into general college English classes. The study also aims to explore students’ opinions about online TOEIC and learning experiences. For the purpose, a questionnaire survey complemented with qualitative interviews was conducted. The students’ pre-test and post-test scores were also compared. The findings show that the online TOEIC course is not satisfactory based on the students’ responses, although there are statistically significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores. Possible reasons are explained, and pedagogical implications are provided on how to utilize multimedia technology for effective English instruction.
