This study aims at suggesting that the primary determinant of whether linguistic units can combine with each other is ‘meaning’ rather than ‘grammar’, and that it is necessary for the EFL students to study English in a cognitive view. To perform such an object I analyzed and searched through, turn, and come/go in a cognitive view. As a result, I can find out a particular motivation/assimilation from our cognitive interaction between language and sociocultural phenomena in case that we can not describe whether a particular sentence is appropriate or not in grammar. And also I come to recognize the economic principle through describing cognitively the process of extended meaning. That is to say, since the semantic networks associated with words are open, new phenomena can be assimilated to existing categories on the basis of perceived similarities, without the need to create a new word for a new phenomenon. Thus, a finite system is able to cope with a world that is infinite and in constant flux. Finally, I suggest that EFL students should study English in cognitive way rather than through simply memorizing all of the phenomena.
