노인연극의 비판적 사유와 모색 -자전적 기억과 회상에 기반하여

고령 사회로 진입한 동시대 한국 사회의 새로운 주체, 노인은 이제 더 이상 주변인이나 연령적 소수자가 아니다. 하지만 삶에서의 노화에 대한 ‘자연스러운’ 수용이 자본의 소비적인 논리 속에서 도태되고 있듯이 노인에 대한 이해 역시 위기의 ‘문제’적 집단으로 분류된 채 ‘존재’의 관점으로 접근하고 있지 못하다. 본 연구는 그러한 맥락에서 연극예술행위, 즉 노인연극은 무엇이어야 하며 어떠해야 하는지를 기존 노인연극에 대한 비판적인 시선 속에서 탐구하고 있다. 이에 노인들의 자서전적 기억을 원재료로 하는 ‘회상연극’의 특수한 제작과정과 그 실제 사례를 제시함으로써, 그를 통해 결과적으로 노인들로 하여금 삶의 한 조건이자 과정으로서 노후를 맞는 힘을 발현시키며, 스스로를 인격체로 인식하고 자신들의 내적 동일성과 정체성을 확인함은 물론 과거를 현재에 수용하여 자아통합감에 이르도록 돕는 연극의 가능성을 제안한다. 본 연구는 이렇듯 특수한 질서 속의 노년기와 노인에 대한 탐구를 토대로 그들 삶속에서 향유될 수 있는 노인연극의 구체적인 방법론을 살피고 있다는 점에서 반향하는 바가 크다. 언급된 자전적 기억과 회상의 의미/효과에 기반한 회상연극의 실제적인 방법론은 타자화된 노인들 삶의 질적인 변화, 즉 노년기 노인들의 삶의 성장에 실질적인 영향을 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.
Abstract
The elderly, new subject in Korean society that has entered an aged society, is no longer a peripheral or an age minority. But the 'natural' acceptance of aging is being derailed in the consumer logic of capitalism. As such, the elderly are classified as a 'problematic' group of crisis and are not approached from the 'existence' point of view. This study criticizes existing senior play and explores what it should be and how it should be. It presents a special production process and actual examples of the reminiscence theatre, which uses the autobiographical memories of the elderly as its original material. Through the research, this study considers the possibility of the older adult’s theatre that regenerates the power to meet old age as a condition and process of life, enables to recognize oneself as a person and identify oneself as a person, and enables to embrace the past to achieve self-integration. This study is important in that it is based on this particular quest for old age, looking at the specific methodology of creating elderly play that can be enjoyed in their lives. The practical methodology of reminiscence theatre, based on the autobiographical memories and the meaning and effects of the reminiscence, will have a real impact on the quality of life of the underprivileged, the elderly.
