(My name is Rachel Corrie)>(2005)를 분석한다.

Abstract

The conflicts between Israel and Palestine, as well as the wars and terrorism that occurred around the turn of the millennium-such as the September 11 attacks in 2001 and the Iraq War in 2003- were highly noteworthy from a theatrical perspective. As Jenn Stephenson points out, "Some scholars link the origin of theatres of the real to a specific impelling event. The terror attacks of 9/11 and its instant global mediatization, and the subsequent War on Terror are commonly cited". These events have consequently provoked renewed interest in documentary and verbatim theatre concerning contemporary war and terrorism. In particular, in the United States and the United Kingdom, documentary/verbatim theatre that directly addresses the tragedies of reality-embodying an attempt to approach raw truth-has been actively performed as a form of discourse. This study examines two verbatim theatres concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: Via Dolorosa (1998) by David Hare and My Name is Rachel Corrie (2005) edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner. The selection of these works is based on their shared use of verbatim techniques, while also highlighting clear differences in the creators' intentions and approaches. These differences are understood not only as aesthetic choices but also as stemming from the geopolitical context of their respective times, allowing for comparative analysis. In this perspective, this study aims to explore how these works reproduce the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the verbatim method, and further, how they facilitate audiences' reception and reflection on the conflict.
