동아시아 근대 정치사에서 아나키즘의 유행과 좌절은 아주 흥미로운 현상이다. 당시 이 지역은 제국주의와 국가주의가 팽창해 가고 식민지 지배라는 특수한 상황이 민족주의를 선동하던 시기였다. 혁명과 반역의 분위기가 팽배했던 시대다. 이 대목에서 반제국주의와 반국가 그리고 민족주의 극복을 외치는 아나키즘이 크게 풍미했던 것은 사상사적으로도 연구의 가치가 있다. 그리고 그토록 열광적이던 흐름이 느닷없이 쇠퇴해버린 것은 더 따져봐야 할 테마이다. 이 글은 동아시아 아나키즘 사상과 운동을 정리하는 서론에 해당한다. 비교 연구의 틀을 만들고, 중요한 사건과 인물을 취사 선택하는 작업을 하고자 한다. 한국의 신채호와 중국의 劉師培 그리고 일본의 幸德秋水를 일단 대표적인 인물로 선택했다. 이들의 사상과 운동을 비교하는 분석틀로는 정부에 대한 견해, 전통에 대한 태도 그리고 인터내셔날리즘적 연대에 대한 입장 등 세 가지로 정했다. 이 세상에 주장되어서는 안 될 사상이란 없다. 하지만 너무나 많은 사상이 있어서 모두 다 주장할 수는 없다. 그러니 그럴듯한 사상을 찾기보다는 최선의 사상을 찾아야 한다. 그리고 지조있는 사상을 찾아야 한다. 문제는 최선의 사상이나 지조있는 사상이라도 시대와 공간에 따라 최악의 사상이 될 수도 있다는 것이다. 이것이 근대 동아시아 아나키즘을 연구하는 보람이기도 하고 한계이기도 하다.
Abstract
A comparative Study of East Asia Anarchism : Kodoku shusui, Liu shi-pei and Shin chae-ho as a Test Case Cho, Kwang soo(Youngsan University) Many of modern East Asia intellectuals have been in agony shuttling between tradition and modernization, from learning extremely towards reactionism to the general westernization of their own country. They would take any idea which they could view as helpful to solve problem in Japan, China and Korea. Kodoku shusui, Liu shi-pei and Shin chae-ho took anarchism as a way of building their nations. They believed that the anarchist revolution should open a fundamental way of solving the problems that their countries had to face in those days. They are mans of great learning in eastern as well as western thoughts, whose specialty on the Asian political tradition brought to eminence. Mans of gifted scholarship, they used the gift to formulate their own theory of anarchism applicable to the East Asian context. However, their vision of anarchist society were too much ideal for Asia. Their failure in anarchist movement have many reasons, but the most important one is their anarchism leaned too much on the practical rather than the philasophical aspect. But anywhere they are forerunner of East Asia anarchist movement.
