Abstract

Using EGARCH(exponencial generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity) method to consider asymmetric volatility effect which are widely observed in the stock price, we empirically investigate whether China, Japan, US stock markets have volatility effect on the Korean stock markets. Based on daily stock price data of China, Japan, US, and Korea, we find that there are asymmetric volatility spillover effects except a financial crisis period in case of China. However, there are asymmetric volatility spillover effects after a financial crisis period in case of Japan and US. Volatility spillover effects have much more increased when the bad news come to the oversea stock markets.
