가인과 아벨의 내러티브(창세기 4:1-7)에 대한 예배학적 고찰

가인과 아벨의 내러티브는 기독교 강단에서 가장 많이 설교되어지는 본문 중의 하나이다. 가인과 아벨은 하나님께 예배를 드렸다. 그 예배에서 가인이 바친 것은 그가 수확한 땅의 소산물중 일부였고, 아벨이 바친 것은 양의 첫 새끼 중 일부였다. 문제는 하나님이 이 모두를 받으시지는 않으셨다는 것이다. 이 내러티브를 핵심적인 의미를 이해하기 위해서 질문되어져야 하는 것은 ‘왜 하나님이 가인과 가인의 제물을 거절하시고 아벨과 아벨의 제물을 받으셨냐?’는 것이다. 전통적으로 이러한 결과에 대해서는 제물의 질이나 예배자로서의 가인과 아벨의 본성으로 그 해석의 열쇠를 찾고자 한다. 그러나 이러한 보편적인 접근은 사실 이 본문의 본질을 바르게 이해하는데 어려움을 주는 함정일 수 있다. 기독교 역사 속에서 기독교 해석자들은 다양한 해석학적 대답을 제시하고 있다. 예배의 결과가 가인과 아벨의 제물에 있다는 기존의 입장을 받아들이는 의견도 제시되고 있고, 하나님께서 아담과 하와의 타락이후에 땅을 저주하셨기 때문에 그분의 선호도가 땅에 있지 않다는 의견도 제시되고 있으며, 또한 하나님께서 피의 제물에 선호도가 있다는 의견도 제시되고 있고, 혹은 하나님의 동기는 알 수 없다는 의견도 유력하게 제시되고 있으며, 예배자로서 가인과 아벨의 본성과 관련되었다는 또 다른 전통적 입장을 받아들인 의견도 제시되고 있고, 그리고 구속사적 입장에서 ‘둘째’가 예수님의 모형론적 인물이기 때문이라는 의견도 제시된다. 그러나 이러한 해석학적 대답들 이전에 예배자로서 기독교인들의 초점은 과연 이 내러티브가 직접적으로 말하는 것이 무엇인가에 두어야 한다. 그것은 사람들에 의해 드려진 예배를 받거나 혹은 거절하는 것은 전적으로 하나님 그리고 하나님의 자유의지에 달려있다는 사실이다. 그러므로 독자들은 이 내러티브를 읽으면서 예배자로서의 인간에 초점을 두는 것이 아니라 하나님께 두어야 한다.
Abstract
The narrative of Cain and Abel is one of the most commonly preached stories in a Christian pulpit. Cain an Abel offered sacrifices in worship to God. Cain’s offering was the fruit of his labors from the ground while Abel’s offering was the fruit of his labors from the flock. The problem is God has not regarded for both offerings. The significant questions to understand the core meaning of this narrative is about why God has accepted Abel and his offering and about why God has denied Cain and his offering. Traditionally, the most familiar interpretation related to the questions has been related to the quality of the offerings and the nature of Cain and Abel as worshipers. However, this common approach can be the pitfall where most readers could be trapped in. And this pitfall used to lead them to misunderstand what the narrative really wants to say. Christian interpreters in its history have suggested various acceptable answers about the questions. They try to explains in various way that the result of Cain and Abel’s worship is closely related to the quality of Cain and Abel’s offerings, God’s preference to a shepherd and a blood sacrifice, God’s unknown willing, the nature of Cain and Abel as worshipers, Scripture’s preference to ‘the second son, and so on. However, instead of those interpretations, Christians as worshiper need to focus on what the narrative directly shows. That is, to accept or reject worship by people is totally depend on God and His free willing. Therefore, what readers should firstly focus on in this narrative is God rather than a human as a worshiper.
