종교개혁이후, 카톨릭과 개신교는 예배에 대한 기본적인 이해에 있어서 심각한 갈등이 있었다. 그러나 카톨릭과 개신교의 예배에 있어서의 거리는 제2차 바티칸 공의회 이후의 현대교회에서 점점 더 가까워지고 있는 것이 사실이다. 실제로 20세기 중반 이후 개신교에서 가장 두드러진 발전 가운데 하나는 예전이 설교를 위한 무대장치처럼 간주되는 것이 아니라 설교의 동반자로서 고려된다는 것이다. 중요하게도, 이러한 다양한 예배 전통에서의 예전적인 개혁들은 그들 모두가 함께 하나님의 은혜 안에 같이 참여할 수 있는 미래의 가능성을 더욱 더 열어 놓았다. 오늘날 개신교회 설교의 환경은, 회중이 설교 진행의 과정에 참여하는데 많은 관심이 있을 뿐만 아니라 회중의 욕구가 무엇인지에 대해 관심을 가지고 있다. 왜냐하면 오늘날의 설교자들은 회중을 역할을 간과하는 그동안의 전통적 설교의 언어가 가지고 있던 힘과 의미가 상실했다는 것을 인지하였기 때문이다. 실제로 추상적이고, 교리적이고 연역적인 설교가 오늘날 회중의 하루하루의 삶에 연결되는 부분에 있어서 설교가들은 고민이 많다. 설교의 역할은 사람들의 삶을 해석하는 작업이 되어야 하며, 그리고 그 다음은 그 설교를 듣는 회중이 신앙을 가지고 예전적인 행위에 동참하는 것을 가능하게 해주어야 한다. 분명 현대의 개신교 설교학자들이 이루어 놓은 한 가지 중요한 성취는 예배에 있어서 회중의 자리를 재정립해 놓은 것이다. 현대의 기독교인들은 이 시대에 ‘회중의 참여’라는 주제와 관계된 그러한 발전들이 이루어낸 열매들을 적합하게 받아들여야 한다. 설교와 예전 사이의 대화를 수용하는 것은 어쩌면 회중이 더욱 예배에 참여하도록 부르는 것을 더욱 부르게 될 것이다. 설교학과 예배학 간의 대화는 회중의 참여라는 주제를 다루는데 있어서 서로의 단점을 보완하며 장점을 더욱 살려주는 유익한 일이 될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 그러한 노력들을 통해서 기독교는 초대 교회가 가졌던 예배에 있어서의 회중의 참여에 관한 귀중한 유산들을 회복하게 될 것이다.
Abstract
After the Reformation, there was a serious conflict in the worship setting of the past generation of Roman Catholics and Protestants. The distance has been getting closer in contemporary Christianity since the Second Vatican Council. One of the most distinctive developments in Christianity after the middle of twentieth century is that liturgy is now considered as a partner with preaching rather than “the stage and setting for the sermon.” Significantly, those liturgical reforms in various faith traditions opened the door to any future expansion of the practices in which we could ‘participate in the grace of God together.’The contemporary Protestant homilists have more concerned about preaching which is interested in ‘the participation of the congregation’ in a sermon and the needs of hearers since they realized that the power and meaning of the traditional religious language is lost to current culture; the abstract, doctrinal, inductive preaching is disconnected from the daily lives of contemporary people. The task of preaching has to be a work of interpreting lives of the people and then people are enabled to participate in the liturgical action with faith. One significant achievement of the contemporary Protestant homlieticians is to redefine the place of the hearers. Comtemporary Christians need to adapt more suitably to the needs of our own times the fruits of those developments related to the subject ‘the participation of the congregation.’ The adaptation in a dialogue between preaching and worship will strengthen whatever can help to call the whole of congregation to participate in worship service.
