아리스토텔레스의 수사학에 대한 분석과 설교학적 적용 - 아리스토텔레스의 수사학(APIΣΤOΤΗΛOΥΣ ΤΕΧΝΗΣ ΡΗΤΟΡΙΚΗΣ)을 중심으로 -

수사학은 오늘의 기독교 설교와 어떤 연관을 가질 수 있는가? 역사적으로 고대 시대에서 출발해 발달하였던 수사학은 그 후 차츰 사람들의 관심 밖으로 밀려나게 되었다. 그러나 20세기 이후 커뮤니케이션학의 발달은 다시 한 번 수사학에 대한 관심과 학문적 연구를 촉발하도록 하였다. 커뮤니케이션의 입장에서 보면 수사학은 일종의 커뮤니케이션이다. 따라서 수사학이야말로 최초의 커뮤니케이션에 관한 이론과 실제를 체계화한 과정이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 기독교 설교 역시 설교자와 청중 사이에서 일어나는 하나의 커뮤니케이션이다. 그런 점에서 설교와 수사학은 공통분모를 갖는다. 놀라운 사실은 기독교 최초의 설교학 이론이 당시 유행하고 있던 수사학을 채용하여 쓰여졌다는 사실이다. 성 어거스틴이 저술한 『기독교 교설』은 최초 기독교 설교학 교재라고 할 수 있는데, 여기에는 고대 수사학 이론과 방법론이 그 바탕에 깔려있다. 무엇보다 어거스틴 자신이 수사학을 가르친 교사였다는 점은 오늘 우리에게 시사하는 바가 크다고 하겠다. 본 연구는 기독교 설교와 수사학의 이런 역사적 연접성을 생각하면서, 수사학의 고전인 아리스토텔레스의 『수사학』을 오늘의 설교학적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 그리고 이를 기반으로 하여, 아리스토텔레스 수사학의 핵심 개념인 ‘에토스-파토스-로고스’를 기독교 설교에 적용해보고자 하였다.
Abstract
How can rhetoric relate to today's Christian preaching? Historically, the rhetoric that originated and developed in ancient times gradually became out of people's minds. But the development of communication science since the 20th century has once again prompted interest in rhetoric and its academic research. From the point of view of communication, rhetoric is a form of communication. Therefore, we can say that rhetoric is the process of organizing the first communication theory and practice. Christian preaching is also a communication between the preacher and the audience. In this regard, preaching and rhetoric have a common denominator. What's surprising is that the first Christian preaching theory was written using rhetoric that was popular at the time. On Christian Doctrine, written by St. Augustine, is the first Christian preaching textbook, based on ancient rhetoric theories and methodologies. Most of all, Augustine himself was a teacher of rhetoric, which means a lot to us today. Thinking of this historical connection between Christian preaching and rhetoric, this article looked at Aristotle's classic of rhetoric from today's preaching point of view. And based on this, I wanted to apply the core concept of Aristotle's rhetoric, 'ethos-pathos-logos,' to Christian preaching.
