에바그리우스의 영성훈련과 팔복의 영성: ‘프토코스’(Ptokos) 개념을 중심으로

초록
산상설교는 초기 기독교와 중세 기독교를 넘어서 우리시대의 실천적 영성을 위한 기초이다. 산상설교는 중세 수도원 영성을 대표하는 베네딕트 규칙서의 기초일 뿐 아니라, 에바그리우스의 영성훈련 저작들의 배경이 되고 있다. 에바그리우스의 영성훈련의 모델은 예수의 광야 시험에 나타나는 악한 생각들과의 싸움이다. 예수 그리스도는 신앙의 대상일 뿐 아니라, 인격과 삶의 대상이다에바그리우스는 안티레티코스와 프락티코스를 통해 인간이 닮아갈 수 있는 예수의 영성을 강조하고 있다. 에바그리우스를 비롯한 여러 교부들이 사막에서 금욕적 수행을 시도한 계기는 예수 그리스도의 광야시험을 영성훈련의 모델로 삼았기 때문이다. 그들은 그리스도인의 삶에 그리스도의 삶의 과정을 투사시키려고 했다. 에바그리우스에게 영성훈련의 상황은 예수의 광야시험이며, 구체적 실천방식은 산상설교의 팔복이다. 에바그리우스에게 영성훈련의 과정은 악한 생각들과의 투쟁이다. 그러나 인간은 스스로 악에서 벗어나 구원을 완성할 수 없다. 프토코스의 영성은 악한 생각을 제거하기보다 하나님의 뜻을 실현하는 길을 제시한다. 하나님에 대한 열정으로 자기 자신을 비우는 것이 악한 생각을 극복할 수 있다. 심령이 가난하다는 것은 영적으로 메마르거나 열정이 식어지는 것이 아니다. 이것은 열정적이고 능동적인 겸손을 말한다. 심령이 가난한 것은 먼저 죄를 인식하고 용서를 구하는 상태이며, 여전히 죄인임을 자각하는 상태이다. 프토코스(겸손)는 팔복의 기초적인 덕목이다. 에바그리우스의 영성훈련은 그의 시대를 넘어서 우리가 살아가고 있는 상황에도 필요한 영성 실천법이다. 그것은 영적 공허함을 경험하는 우리에게 예수그리스도의 삶과 교훈을 통하여 무정념과 하나님의 나라를 제시한다.
Abstract
The Sermon on the Mount is the basis for practical spirituality in our time beyond early Christianity and medieval Christianity. The Sermon on the Mount is not only the basis of the Benedict instruction, which is representing medieval monastic spirituality, but also the background of Evagrius’s spiritual training-documents. Evagrius's model of spiritual training is the fight against evil thoughts in Jesus' wilderness temptation. Jesus Christ is not only an object of faith, but an object of character and life. Through ‘Antirrhetikos’ and ‘Praktikos’, Evagrius emphasizes the spirituality of Jesus, which human can take after. The reason why Evagrius and other fathers tried to practice ascetic practices in the desert was that they used the temptation of Jesus Christ as a model for spiritual training. They tried to project the course of Christ's life into the Christian's life. For Evagrius, the situation of spiritual training is the temptation of Jesus Christ, and the concrete way of practice is the Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount. For Evagrius, the process of spiritual training is a struggle with evil thoughts. However, man cannot escape from evil for himself and fulfill the salvation. The spirituality of ptokos wolud rather suggest a way to realize God's will than get rid of evil thoughts. Emptying myself with a passion for God can overcome evil thoughts. Poor in spirit does not mean that we are spiritually dry or cold. This refers to passionate and active humility. The poor in spirit is a state of first acknowledging sin and asking for forgiveness, and a state, in which we are conscious of our sinfullness. Ptokos (humility) is the basic virtue of the Beatitudes. Evagrius' spiritual training is a spiritual practice beyond his time that is necessary even for situations in which we are living. It shows us ‘Apatheia’ and the kingdom of God through the life and instruction of Jesus Christ, when we experience spiritual emptiness.
