초록

This study examines the use of logical markers in Korean-Arabic literary translation through short novel “guest and mother”. Typical conjunctions: wa(roughly: ‘and’), fa(roughly: ‘because’), lakin(‘but’),kamaa(roughly: ‘also’/ in addition’) and thumma(‘and then’). Conjunction as logical marker signals the way the writer wants the reader to relate what is about to be said to what has been said before. Logical markers express one of a small number of general relations. The most frequently used logical markers in Arabic translated text are ‘wa’. Between the sentences or above sentences, typical logical marker ‘wa’ are added to a translation to make it smoother for contributing to coherence in text, even when no logical markers are used in the source text in Korean. The translator does in practice, to strike a balance between accuracy and naturalness. At the level of cohesion, naturalness enhanced by using typical Arabic logical markers such as wa, kama, hata, and fa.
