이 글은 충청북도 화양동을 소재로 하여 이루어진 문학작품을 다룬 글로써 주로 우암 송시열의 한시와 그의 제자들이 지은 한시를 논의의 대상으로 하였다. 우암은 만년인 59세 때부터 81세까지 22년간 화양동을 드나들면서 제자들을 기르고 학문을 연마하면서 틈틈이 자신의 심경을 토로하는 시 작품을 남겼다. 우암과 그 제자들의 시는 겉으로는 자연 풍광을 노래한 것이었으나 그 내면에는 시국에 대한 걱정과 자신의 삶에 대한 반성, 학문에 대한 성찰이 드러나고 있다. 화양동에는 구곡이라 명명한 절경이 있는바 후대의 학자들은 이곳을 찾아 구곡을 차례로 읊은 연작시를 즐겨 지었으니 지금까지 발굴된 것이 10편에 이른다. 이들 후학들의 시 역시 화양동의 빼어난 경물에 얹어 역사와 시대에 대한 일정한 의취를 나타내었다.
Abstract
This paper aims to examine the 'Hwayang-dong' poems written by Song Siyeol and his disciples. For 22 years(from 59 to 81 years old), Song had been to Hwayang-dong many times to teach disciples, study and write poems. The subject of the poems are natural scenery, but their themes are worries abut the political situation, reflection on his life and insight on learning. In Hwayang-dong, there are nine fine sceneries called 'Goo-gok'. Many scholars of after ages had been there and wrote poems in turn on the scenery and among them 10 poems are found. Their nature poems also expressed the implicit thoughts and emotions about history and society.
