초록
The sentence-final particle e has been analysed as a sentence-type suffix (e.g. Sohn 1999), a speaker-attitude marker (e.g. K-D. Lee 1993), or an epistemic modal suffix (e.g. H-S. Lee 1993). In this paper I propose to analyse e as a marker of relevance of the propositional content to the addressee within the framework of relevance theory, which contrasts with another sentence-final particle ney, a marker of relevance of the propositional content to the speaker (see Noh 2003). This analysis can deal with not only declarative sentences but also non-declarative sentences ending with e. It can also deal with many sentences ending with e that previous accounts cannot. It also suggests that the meaning of the particle e is procedural information that guides the addressee to construct the propositional content and a higher-level explicature of the utterance ending with e.
