This paper offers a new perspective on long- and short-form complement clauses in Korean, proposing that they should be analyzed as adjuncts instead of complements to their head nouns. It argues that long-form complement clauses involve utterance event variables, while short-form complement clauses are mediated by event variables related to propositional content. Unlike short-form complement clauses, which have factive readings, long-form complement clauses yield non-factive readings by forming larger structures that incorporate functional projections related to speech acts. This paper concludes that the syntactic differences in clausal size and merging position within the noun phrase significantly impact the semantic interpretation of the two types of complement clauses.
