국립극장 예술진흥회 활동으로 본 1980-90년대 국립극장의 대중교육

Abstract

This article discusses about the public education activities of the National Theater(國立劇場) in the 1980s-1990s with regard to the theater and the liberal arts education. Specifically, it examines the activities of the ‘Art Promotion Association for the National Theater(國立劇場 藝術振興會),’ which was established centering on the National Theater arts lecture & culture school and graduates. The target period is from the year in 1983 when the education for the general public was attempted in earnest while the full-fledged art lecture was progressed, to the 1990s that the educational scope of the National Theater was diminished while the functions of culture-related liberal arts education were transferred to various organizations. The imitations of the state-led culture and art education are argued after observing the process of being developed the educational activities of the national and public institutions with being emphasized the cultural education following the appearance of new military authorities, and the characteristics of the performing arts education linked with the activity of the art promotion association for the National Theater. The popular arts education of the National Theater, which was diversified such as the art festivals and camps including the art lectures and the support for excellent school, steadily attempted a variety of changes while going along with the government guidelines. However, apart from these attempts, it had the definite limit in relation to the direction of art education as an agency of belonging to the government. Especially, the starting point itself was in the national policy rather than the public demand. Thus, there was also a lack of spontaneity even if having been capable of mobilizing the participants under the leadership of the state. The purport as saying of the culture & art dissemination or the visiting performing arts was diluted while targeting the limited group rather than the general public. In consideration of these matters, it will be grasped the light and shade of popular education that had been carried out by the National Theater, in terms of the aspect dubbed the public nature of the theater.
