Abstract
Using 16 commercial banks' and regional banks' data from 1991 to 2001, we analyze the effect of IT investments on bank profitability by pooled OLS, fixed and random effects models, and the panel GMM model. Our analysis demonstrates that the increase in IT investment by banks has contributed to improving bank profitability. In addition, it is shown that, as GDP in the region and the ratio of loans to total assets go up, bank profitability improves. However, total assets and interest rate margin prove to be insignificant.
