Abstract

This study analyzes the perceptual differences among students, parents, and teachers of the realities and causes of school violence via Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory. After preliminary surveys and interviews, another survey on perceptual differences was administered to teachers, students and parents in schools located in Daegu Metropolitan City. The results of the analysis can be interpreted as follows. Firstly, students, parents, and teachers have different perceptions regarding the main causes of school violence. This includes differing perceptions in the contributing effects of individuals, families, schools, local communities, and social culture on school violence. Secondly, students, parents, and teachers have different perceptions on the solutions for school violence, though they agree that parental involvement, teacher intervention, school protection programs for younger students, as well as a playful culture are the most effective ways to prevent school violence.
