Abstract
The term pervasive developmental disorder(PDD) was newly included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Third Edition (DSM-Ⅲ) in 1980. Since then, there were many changes in both components and contents of PDD over DSM-Ⅲ-R(1987), DSM-Ⅳ(1994), and DSM-Ⅳ-TR(2000). This study aimed to examine the changes and explore the aspects which might be considered in the following edition of DSM. To do this, the section of pervasive developmental disorders of each DSM-Ⅲ, DSM-Ⅲ-R, DSM-Ⅳ, and DSM-Ⅳ-TR was reviewed and four aspects that could be considered in the near future were discussed at the end.
