Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the variables influencing depressive emotions of at-risk middle school students. The subjects were 141 at-risk middle school students. Correlations and multiple regressions were implemented to answer the research questions. The dependent variable was the scores of Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale(CES-D). The independent variables were the scores of Korean-Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS), Korean-Children's Automatic Thoughts Scale(K-CATS), Self-Efficacy Scale(SES), gender. The results of the study were as follows: (1) anxiety and negative automatic thoughts had impact on the depressive emotions of at-risk middle school students. The higher the scores of anxiety and negative automatic thoughts, the higher the scores of depressive emotions; (2) Three factors of negative automatic thoughts - hostile cognition, depressive cognition, socially anxious cognition- had impact on the depressive emotions of at-risk middle school students. That is, the higher the scores of negative automatic thoughts, the higher the scores of depressive emotions; (3) General self-efficacy had impact on the depressive emotions of at-risk middle school students. That is, the higher the scores of self-efficacy, the lower the scores of depressive emotions. Limitations of the study and implications for future research were discussed.
