본 연구는 2025-1학기, 서울에 위치한 C대학의 ‘창의적아이디어방법론’ 교과목을 중심으로, 디자인 씽킹(Design Thinking)을 활용한 지역 상생 디자인 수업 모형을 개발하고 그 적용 결과를 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 수업은 지역사회 문제를 학습의 출발점으로 삼아, 학습자가 문제를 발견하고 정의한 후, 창의적 아이디어를 도출하여 프로토타입을 구현하는 문제기반 학습(Project-Based Learning, PBL) 형태로 운영됐다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 학습자들은 지역사회의 현실적 문제를 사용자 중심으로 재인식하며 공감적 사고(Empathic Thinking)와 관찰 능력을 강화했다. 둘째, 아이디어 발상과 구체화 과정을 통해 발산적․수렴적 사고를 통합하는 통합적 사고(Integrated Thinking) 역량이 향상됐다. 셋째, 수업 결과물은 전통시장 리브랜딩, 해양도시 관광 콘텐츠, 세대 상생 프로그램 등 지역 맞춤형 프로젝트로 발전하여 지역사회에서 활용 가능한 결과물을 제시했다. 특히, 이러한 결과물은 지역의 정체성과 맥락을 반영한 브랜드 관점의 디자인 산출물로 확장되어, 교육 결과가 도시 활성화와 지역 브랜드 형성에 기여할 수 있는 가능성을 보여줬다. 본 연구는 디자인 씽킹이 단순한 아이디어 교육을 넘어, 지역 문제 해결과 도시 활성화를 촉진하는 실천적 교육 모형(Pragmatic Educational Model)으로 확장될 수 있음을 실증적으로 제시했다. 향후 연구에서는 AI 및 디지털 기술을 접목한 확장형 디자인 씽킹 교육모델 개발과 지역–대학–산업 간 지속 가능한 협력체계 구축을 위한 실증 연구가 필요할 것이다.
Abstract
This study focused on the Creative Idea Methodology course offered at C University in Seoul during the first semester of 2025, aiming to develop and analyze a community-based design education model utilizing Design Thinking. The course adopted a Project-Based Learning (PBL) format, using real-world community issues as starting points for learning. Students identified and defined problems, generated creative ideas, and developed prototypes as part of the process. The findings are as follows. First, learners enhanced empathic thinking and observational skills by reinterpreting community issues from a user-centered perspective. Second, through idea generation and elaboration, students strengthened their integrated thinking by combining divergent and convergent modes of thought. Third, the course outcomes evolved into region-specific projects—such as traditional market rebranding, marine city tourism content, and intergenerational programs—offering practical solutions applicable within the community. These outcomes further expanded into brand-oriented design deliverables reflecting local identity, demonstrating the potential of educational design projects to contribute to urban revitalization and regional brand development. This study empirically demonstrates that Design Thinking can extend beyond idea-centered pedagogy into a pragmatic educational model that supports community problem-solving and urban revitalization. Future research should explore AI- and digital technology–integrated Design Thinking models and sustainable collaboration systems among communities, universities, and industries.
