Abstract

This research has a purpose of revealing the relationship between two faces and new situational factors not suggested in the theory of Two faces to expand Kilho Kang’s Two faces theory. To satisfy this purpose, this research sets mood-state and issue involvement as situational factors and investigates how these factors influence the relationship between two faces. Based on Priming effect theory, Social Judgement theory,Elaboration Likelihood Model and existing researches, this research sets hypotheses and a research question on how issue involvement and a listener's mood can affect the perception toward face-threatening message. To verify these hypotheses, empirical data was collected. As a result of analyzing the collected data, it turned out that listeners’ mood and issue involvement affect the listeners’ perception on their face toward the message raising a speaker's face. Therefore, the hypotheses were verified. However, the interaction effect between mood and issue involvement about listeners’ perception on their face about the message raising a speaker’s face was not found. At last, theoretical and academic implications of this research were discussed.
