Abstract

This study compared the characteristics of ICA and ICMS between Korean and Chinese college students by investigating the relationship between the two variables. This study performed a survey at several universities in Daegu and Kyungbook provinces with Korean and Chinese students. The results of this study were as follows. First, this study confirmed that high ICA works as an obstacle to block efficient communication. Second, there were differences in preferred ICMS depending upon country-level culture in the same cultural boundary--a collectivistic high-context culture. Third, high ICA played some positive roles for Korean students but worked fairly negatively for Chinese students. Fourth, while Korean students showed a positive tendency,Chinese students revealed a negative trend in managing intercultural conflict. Finally, this study disclosed the level of ICA is a crucial factor in determining the types of ICMS.
